结婚不需要结婚证。只有双方去婚姻登记机关完成结婚登记，才算是结婚，双方才确立婚姻关系。要求办理结婚登记的男女双方应当亲自到婚姻登记机关申请结婚登记。
结婚登记的法律意义如下：
1、保障社会主义婚姻制度的实行。国家通过结婚登记，国家通过结婚登记，可以对公民的婚姻的建立进行监督，有利于维护法律的严肃性，防止包办、买卖婚姻、早婚和重婚事件的发生，以国家的强制力确保社会主义婚姻家庭制度的巩固；
2、保护婚姻当事人的合法权益。国家实行结婚登记制度，可给予争取婚姻自主的男女及时地法律援助，保护基于爱情而要求结合的男女的正当权利；还可以帮助指导婚姻当事人，避免因无知或受欺骗而陷于不幸的婚姻之中；
3、及时防止和惩治违反相关法律的行为。通过结婚登记，国家工作人员可以直接对婚姻当事人开展法制教育，及时发现违反相关法律的行为，并采取相应的有效措施。
法律依据：《婚姻登记条例》第四条
内地居民结婚，男女双方应当共同到一方当事人常住户口所在地的婚姻登记机关办理结婚登记。
中国公民同外国人在中国内地结婚的，内地居民同香港居民、澳门居民、台湾居民、华侨在中国内地结婚的，男女双方应当共同到内地居民常住户口所在地的婚姻登记机关办理结婚登记。
