生育保险是国家对怀孕以及分娩的劳动妇女因为生育导致不得已中断劳动的时候由国家和社会对该孕妇提供相应的医疗方面的服务和孕妇的生育津贴与孕妇产假的一种保险制度，是一种国家或者社会必须对生育中的妇女作出的经济补偿和医疗保健的保护制度。
法律依据：
《中华人民共和国社会保险法》 第五十三条 职工应当参加生育保险，由用人单位按照国家规定缴纳生育保险费，职工不缴纳生育保险费。
