发生交通事故后，应立即停车，不能逃逸。这不仅是法律规定的义务，也是抢救人命、财产的需要，更体现了人道主义精神。
停车后，应根据事故情况，采取不同的处置措施：
(一)造成人员伤亡的，应立即对人员进行抢救，若需要变动现场，应当表明位置;
(二)未造成人身伤亡的，若对事实及成因没有争议的，可以即行撤离现场，恢复交通，自行协商处理损害赔偿事宜;若对事实或成因等有争议，不即行撤离现场的，应当迅速向交警部门报告。
(三)若仅造成轻微财产损失，并且基本事实清楚的，应当先撤离现场再进行协商处理。
三、认定事故责任，协商赔偿事宜
发生交通事故后，交警部门在进行现场勘验、检查、调查后，会出具交通事故认定书。交通事故认定书是认定事故责任，划分赔偿标准的重要依据，因此，发生交通事故后，一定要报警并取得事故认定书。
当事双方可根据交通事故认定书认定的事故责任，自行协商赔偿事宜;也可在交警部门主持下，进行调解;如果调解不成，还可以向法院起诉。
四、对事故损失进行赔偿

《中华人民共和国道路交通安全法》 第三条 道路交通安全工作，应当遵循依法管理、方便群众的原则，保障道路交通有序、安全、畅通。
