放生一只巴西龟违法。放生巴西龟是违法行为。因为巴西龟是外来引进物种，放生后会对当地的生态环境造成破坏了，所以不能将其放生到野外。从境外引进野生动物物种的，应当经国务院野生动物保护主管部门批准。法律依据：《中华人民共和国野生动物保护法》 第三十七条 从境外引进野生动物物种的，应当经国务院野生动物保护主管部门批准。从境外引进列入本法第三十五条第一款名录的野生动物，还应当依法取得允许进出口证明书。有关依法实施进境检疫，凭进口批准文件或者允许进出口证明书以及检疫证明按照规定办理通关手续。
